Don’t Mention The Egg Dumplings

Bordering on the ridiculous – Austria gets itself in a tizzy over an egg dinner.

An Austrian court has recently reached the peak of madness when a police officer was convicted for publishing a photo of a plate of egg dumplings with green salad. It seems that that particular dish is something of a delicacy and is not to be joked about.

The police officer was given a suspended prison sentence of ten months at the Eisenstadt regional court on Monday 12th April because he was said to have posted a photo on Facebook of a plate of egg dumplings with green salad.  He posted the image on Adolf Hitler’s birthday last year of the supposed favorite dish of the Führer – egg dumplings with green salad.

A friend of the defendant commented “Blondi is missing”. Blondi was the name of Adolf Hitler’s dog. Both men were FPÖ members at the time. Shortly afterwards, both men left the party, much to the relief of state party leader Alexander Petschnig.

The policeman had to answer for a crime against Austria’s prohibition law. The jury found him guilty by five votes to three, and he was also fined €6,300.

Austrians are also forbidden to use numbers and digits that could remind anyone of Adolf Hitler. An association of ‘anti-fascists called the “Mauthausen Komitee” decides which ones they are.

Also numbers associated with the so-called ‘far-right’ will no longer be allowed on car license plates. The numbers will be monitored by the same committee. Anyone who uses these digits and numbers can be threatened with up to 20 years imprisonment and tried by a jury.

Egg Dumpling Are No ‘Yoke’ In Modern Austria

Dealing with the memory of Adolf Hitler represents a considerable legal risk in the Republic of Austria. You have been warned: Egg dumplings are a serious matter in Austria, yoke about them at your peril!

Only the brave should deal with Adolf Hitler and his life’s work.

UPDATE: 10 June 2021

The Daily Mail Online carried the following report that we reprint without comment. No sniggering please.

An Austrian soldier has been jailed for 19 months after getting a swastika tattooed on his testicle.

The 29-year-old drank two bottles of whiskey before his brother tattooed the banned symbol on his scrotum, the court in the city of Klagenfurt heard. He posted a picture of the tattoo online and showed it off to army colleagues on another occasion while drunk on the final evening of a military exercise.

The soldier, who has not been identified because of Austrian privacy laws, was further accused of posting Nazi photos at a Cold War bunker museum, drinking Hitler-branded wine and posting Nazi propaganda online.

He was sentenced to 19 months in prison for the glorification of Nazism and illegal firearm possession.
