In just over three months Manchester has seen an explosion of violent crime including murders, rapes and robberies.
Greater Manchester police figures show that in the three months from November to January 2023, a staggering 898 knife crimes were reported in the region. That includes three murders, 12 rapes and 287 robberies where a blade was used.
Since the beginning of the year, there have been 17 serious stabbing incidents, including that of a 14-year-old girl stabbed with a broken bottle while at school, a 62-year stabbed in a supermarket car park and a 19-year-old stabbed in the chest in a park. Only last week a man was attacked in an ASDA store in Chadderton with what witnesses described as a ‘machete’.
But can the GMP statistics be trusted? In 2019 a review found that they had been undercounting knife crime statistics for years – making them appear better than they actually were. The error was blamed on a ‘technical issue’ in the way data was recorded. Knife crime figures “prior to December 2017 were found to be wrong.”
It must also be remembered that many victims do not report a crime to the police. This can be for a number of reasons, including fear of the attacker, because they are involved in crime themselves and some just because they simply do not want to ‘grass’.
What is clear unfortunately, is that our modern, ‘woke’ police are just not up to the job.
